Liberals still singing the same old, flawed tune
Liberals still singing the same old, flawed tune
EDITOR:
The Aug. 28 letter "What would conservatives say about a Democrat who ..." leads me to wonder: What kind of thinking would lead someone to suggest that President Bush would deliberately involve this country in a war based on a lie?
As for the deaths, what of the deaths of Iraqi citizens for years under Saddam Hussein? Are they any less important? War is hell. People are going to die.
You liberal Democrats sing the same old tune about tax cuts for the wealthy. Change your record. Its flawed. If the wealthy get more tax cuts than the rest of us it's because they contribute more then the rest of us. If we have record deficits it's because we are in a war and war costs money. Duh! Would you rather have no deficits and have terrorists in your backyard? Sounds like you would. Well, I wouldn't.
The prescription drug bill helped my 95-year-old mother. What planet were you on at the time? As for Social Security, well, President Bush has a wonderful plan, but no one wanted to listen so in a few years when it runs out of money, I don't want to hear from you liberals. Perhaps if you union people would stop being so greedy the companies in this country would stop wanting to move out. Ever think of that?
President Bush was allowed under the law to install Mr. Bolton to be United Nations ambassador. Just because Mr. Clinton came before the cameras every time he used the bathroom to take personal credit for everything doesn't mean Mr. Bush needs to follow suit. President Bush is too busy accomplishing things to waste time on the media.
And once again, I say get a new record. The continual crying about breaks for the pharmaceutical industry, the oil industry, etc., bores me to tears.

Venom toward Democrats now spewed on the press by president's supporter
EDITOR:
I always expect the New Castle writer of last Sunday's letter, "Assault on Bush becomes an assault on America," to spew his venom, hatred, and intolerance of Democrats, but now he's directed his poison at the news media as well. Why? Probably because he, and many other Republicans, know the Iraq war isn't going the way they want it to, so what' left other than blaming everyone else except the guys who started it -- Donald Rumsfeld and George Bush?
What happened to "shock and awe" and what happened to the "cakewalk"? Didn't Rumsfeld tell us before the war that the basic strategy of shock and awe is that if you droop enough bombs on the enemy they'll all surrender? The United States dropped more tonnage of bombs on Iraq then were used in all of World War II, yet most of Saddam's military didn't formally surrender, they just took off their uniforms and scattered.
Rumsfeld also told America a couple months ago the insurgency was "on it's last throes." Then how come a commanding general said just the opposite? The fact is, more troops have been killed since George Bush put on the big show with his "Mission Accomplished" speech than before Republicans declared victory. If the war is over and we won, why is President Bush sending reinforcements to Iraq? Some cakewalk, huh?
It's obvious Rumsfeld committed the mortal sin of warfare -- he grossly underestimated the enemy. Then when Kim Jong Il of North Korea was being defiant over nuclear inspections old Rummy made the statement, "We can defeat Iraq and North Korea at the same time." I suggest he back off before his mouth gets us into World War III.
Last Sunday's writer goes on to blame the media for discontent over the price of gasoline. Gee, last time I checked the oil companies set the price of gas, not the media. By the way, technology exists to wean the world off of oil in 10 years or less. Hydrogen can be produced from water for about $1.35 per gallon, so why is George Bush pushing more oil refineries rather than hydrogen refineries? Just who exactly is it that's spreading lies and misconceptions?
