LISBON -- Columbiana County is planning its second annual "Stand Down" to assist residents from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Columbiana County Fairgrounds. Participating agencies are The Way Station, The Counseling Center, Legal Aid, VA Services, Community Action of Columbiana County and Christina House. Food, toiletries, blankets, coats and hats will be available. St. Elizabeth Health Center will provide health services. All services will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Community parade
NILES -- The 15th annual Labor Community Parade will be at 10 a.m. Saturday beginning at McKinley High School. Included will be marching bands, local officials, floats and clowns. Carl Ditmer, past president of United Steelworkers of America Local 2155, will be the grand marshal. Anyone interested in marching should call Bob Miller, chairman, at (330) 824-3633.
Open house for seniors
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- An open house is planned from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Villa Maria Apartments at Villa Maria Community Center. The apartments are geared to seniors 58 and older. The setting offers a secure place to live and includes a library, post office and pool. Benefit for injured man
WARREN -- A poker run to pay medical expenses for Pat Hayes will be Saturday, rain or shine, at Big Mike's Numbers Club, 2357 N. Park Ave. Hayes was shot by a robber while tending the bar earlier this year. The first motorcycle will go out at 11 a.m., and the last bike is to return at 4 p.m. Cars, bicycles and walkers are also welcome. The donation is $10 per person, $15 per couple. Local bands will play starting at 7 p.m.
Call for candidates
CORTLAND -- People interested in the conservation of natural resources may become candidates for the Trumbull Soil & amp; Water Conservation District's board of supervisors. Any county resident 18 or older can seek election. Send a letter of interest with background or qualifications to the Trumbull SWCD, 520 W. Main St., Suite 3, Cortland, 44410, by Sept. 15; or stop by the office between 8:30 and 4:30 to pick up a nomination petition form. At least 10 signatures must be turned in on the form by Oct. 13. Candidates will be listed on the ballot for special election on Nov. 17, at Garden Brook Banquet Center. The district is served by five supervisors who serve staggered three-year terms.
Program explains grants
YOUNGSTOWN -- Reservations are being taken for "Cybertour," a Grant Center program in the Main Library Computer Center, 305 Wick Ave. Main Library is a cooperating collection library for the Foundation Center of New York City. "Cybertour" at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 17 will present a brief overview of the Foundation Center's web site and the various ways it can be helpful to a grant seeker looking for information on the Internet. Grant Center programs are free and open to representatives from nonprofit organizations only; no information is available for individuals seeking funds. Reservations can be placed by calling Main Library, (330) 744-8636, and pressing "2" at the phone prompt for "Reference Information."
Christmas parade needs volunteer participants
COLUMBIANA -- The Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for people to participate in the city's 4th annual Christmas parade. Notice is being made early so that plans can be made for floats and costumes, chamber officials said. The event will move out at 10 a.m. Nov. 19. Anyone with a business, organization, school, church or children's group is encouraged to take part. Participants may walk, ride or bicycle.
