Mercy College selects Atty. John F. Hayward as new president

YOUNGSTOWN -- A Toledo attorney has been named president of Mercy College of Northwest Ohio, which offers nursing classes here.
John F. Hayward will begin his duties Oct. 1. He succeeds the late Paul J. Kessler III, who served as president from 2001 until his death in February.
Hayward, a practicing attorney for 39 years, has a long history of leadership with Mercy College, an undergraduate institution that primarily focuses on health care and health science programs.
Mercy College is in Toledo but maintains the St. Elizabeth Health Center satellite campus on Belmont Avenue here.
The satellite campus has about 100 students enrolled in its associate degree in nursing program, where fall classes begin next week.
Hayward graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame and earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. He most recently was a partner in the law firm of Shumaker, Loop and Kendrick.
His duties will include working with the newly formed Mercy College Foundation in establishing key fund-raising goals and increasing community awareness.
