Homecoming at KSU
KENT -- Kent State University plans a variety of public activities for its annual homecoming celebration, which will take place Sept. 12-17. This year's Homecoming Extravaganza will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Kent State Field House, adjacent to Dix Stadium. It will feature food and entertainment.
Some of the other events include: Homecoming pep rally and bonfire at Manchester Field at 7 p.m. Sept. 15; and the Bowman Cup Race at the Student Wellness and Recreation Center will be at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 17 (registration begins at 7 a.m.); campus tours from 1 to 3:30 p.m.; and Kent State University vs. Miami University football game at Dix Stadium at 4 p.m. For a complete schedule of events, visit www.ksualumni.org or call (888) 320-KENT.
Leadership award
Amanda Harvey of Boardman has won a Leadership Development Award from the National Council of Teachers of English. She won $500 at the NCTE Annual Convention in Pittsburgh in November.
Harvey, a teacher at Champion High School, was nominated by an affiliate of NCTE. While she has never attended an NCTE convention, she did meet the following criteria: one to five years of teaching experience, demonstrated capacity for professional leadership and willingness to serve the affiliate during the 2005-06 academic year.
