New podiatrist
Joseph M. Barak, son of Joseph and JoAnn Barak of Poland, has graduated from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, Cleveland.
Dr. Barak, a Cardinal Mooney High School graduate, earned his bachelor's degree in biology from John Carroll University, Cleveland, and received his master's degree in biology from Youngstown State University.
He is doing his residency at a Forum Health medical facility.
PH.D.
Degree in education
Regina M. Rees has received a doctor of philosophy degree in education from the University of Akron.
Rees, a 1969 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, received her bachelor's (1974) and master's (2000) degrees in education from Youngstown State University.
She is on the faculty of the Beeghly College of Education at YSU, where she also coordinates the middle school internship program.
Rees is the daughter of Victoria Reto and the late Dominic Reto. She and her husband, Bill, live in Poland. They have a daughter, Jeanine.
Organic chemistry
B. Scott Freeze, son of Geri and Ed Freeze of Boardman, has completed his doctorate in organic chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania.
He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Youngstown State University and is a graduate of Boardman High School. He is a research scientist at Millennium Pharmaceuticals in Cambridge, Mass.
Philosophy degree
Robert Charles Fitch, son of Robert and Patricia Fitch of Coitsville Township, recently received his doctor of philosophy degree from Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H.
Fitch attended Oberlin College, having received his bachelor's degree 1996. He is living in Sydney, Australia, and is a research scientist at National ICT Australia.
HONORS
Volunteer prison ministry
Pat Mulligan of Mercer, Pa., is the volunteer of the year for the State Regional Correctional Facility in Mercer.
Mulligan was selected for her continuing volunteer prison ministry she began in 1992.
She retired as a regional marketing representative for a corporation in northeast Pennsylvania. Her husband, Thomas, is deceased. She has four sons, four daughters, 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She will be officially honored at the annual volunteer recognition luncheon at the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections' training academy, Elizabethtown, Pa., on Oct. 15.
