XNEW MIDDLETOWN -- United in marriage during a military-style wedding July 30 at Zion Lutheran Church were Debbi Heffinger, 1645 E. South Range Road, North Lima, and Sgt. 1st Class Jimmie Sanders Jr., 103 Woodhill Trail, Augusta, Ga.
The Revs. Larry Klinker and Nicholas Shori presided at the 2:30 p.m. ceremony, and a saber arch was formed by members of Pennsylvania National Guard, who have returned from service in Iraq. After a reception at The Embassy in Youngstown, the couple left on a cruise to the Bahamas.
Parents of the bride are Kathryn Heffinger, also of the North Lima address, and Bryan Heffinger, 5072 Middletown Road. The groom is a son of Carolyn Sanders of Enterprise, Ala., and the late Jimmie Sanders Sr.
Periwinkle gowns were worn by Sonia Kegle and Jennifer O'dea, the honor attendants; the bridesmaids Wendy Rindy, Lauri Sauerwein, Amy Emerick, Tammy Mathes, Leigh-anne Dowdle, and Tiffani Dattilo; and junior bridesmaids, Jenna Rindy and Morgan Sauerwein. Flower girls were Brooke Sauerwein and Jayden Emerick.
George Emerick was best man, and groomsmen were Troy Sauerwein, Buster Kegley, Sean Tanner, Lucas Rindy, Brent Heffinger and Bryan Heffinger. Ring bearer was Alex Mathes.
The bride graduated from Youngstown State University and is a teacher with Midland School District, Midland, Pa. The groom has been serving with the U.S. Army for 121/2 years. He is stationed in Germany and will deploy to Iraq in October.
