Celebration held for the Pacalos' 50th anniversary
XBOARDMAN -- Capt. and Mrs. Nicholas Pacalo, 7394-C E. Huntington Drive, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends during a dinner party Aug. 27 at the Ursuline Center in Canfield.
Hosts for the event were the couple's children and their spouses, Nick Jr. and Cathy Pacalo of Richmond, Va.; Dr. Patrick Pacalo of Boardman; John and Eileen Pacalo of Pittsburgh; Carla Pacalo of Burke, Va.; and Sister Charlotte Italiano OSU of Youngstown, a sister of Mrs. Pacalo. They have three grandchildren.
The former Rose Italiano and Capt. Pacalo were married Dec. 26, 1955, at St. Patrick Church, Youngstown, and are members of Holy Family Church in Poland.
Mrs. Pacalo graduated from Youngstown State University with a degree in medical technology and worked in hospitals in Youngstown and other cities. She later earned a teaching certificate at YSU and taught at Holy Family School. She is a substitute teacher in area schools and is an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Capt. Pacalo graduated from Kent State University, earned a master's degree at the University of Southern California and pursued doctoral studies at West Virginia University. His military career spanned 25 years, during which he served as a naval aviator in various locations including flying missions in Vietnam. Before retiring from the Navy, he served seven years at the Pentagon as aviation safety adviser to the Navy staff. After retiring, Capt. Pacalo served 15 years as professor of industrial safety at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, with three of those years as chairman of the safety science department, and was voted professor emeritus status for his teaching and chairmanship contributions. He is a consultant in industrial safety for industry and the U.S. Department of Labor teaching courses at the OSHA Training Institute in Chicago. He is also a visiting professor for summer courses at Keene State College in New Hampshire.
