Author claims link with Southern Baptists

NASHVILLE (AP) -- The Rev. Rick Warren, best-selling author of "The Purpose-Driven Life," told the Southern Baptist Convention's news service his huge Saddleback Community Church in Lake Forest, Calif., remains in that denomination.
"I'm Southern Baptist; our church is Southern Baptist, and we cooperate in SBC missions support at every level," Warren told Nashville-based Baptist Press.
The question arose when a May talk by Warren in Key West, Fla., seemed to indicate Saddleback was no longer affiliated with the largest U.S. Protestant denomination.
Warren said he doesn't always agree with Southern Baptist decisions, for instance last year's vote to quit the Baptist World Alliance. Warren spoke at the alliance's 100th anniversary congress in July.
