HANOVERTON -- Ryan Novotny scored three goals and had an assist to lead Ursuline. Corey Mihaly added two goals with an assist. Just Mihaley, Vlad Lungu, Nick Celio had a goal apiece for the Irish. Freshman Kevin Patrick, Jonathan Eusaino and Lucas Gonzalez had an assistant apiece. Ursuline (2-2), had 31 shots on goal and the Golden Eagles (1-1) had five. Nick Sego scored the goal for United.
Howland 3, Canfield 1
HOWLAND -- Freshman striker Eric Albani had three goals -- one in the first half and two in the second half -- for Howland (3-0). The game was tied, 1-1, when Albani scored with about seven minutes remaining with Ian Jones assisting. Albani's third goal was registered a few minutes later. Jones finished with two assists. Graham Shryock had the lone goal for Canfield (0-2-1). Howland goalie Paul Burley had five saves while Eric Clayton had 10 saves for Canfield. JVs: Canfield, 1-0.
Hubbard 5, Salem 2
HUBBARD -- Sophomore midfielder Alex Chick made Hubbard's first shot from 10 yards out in the first five minutes as the Eagles stayed on top throughout en route to its first victory. Also getting one goal for the Eagles were seniors A.J. Pulice and Tyler Miller. Senior forward Rapheal Lima had two goals for Hubbard (1-0). Scoring for Salem (2-1-1) were Jonathan Lee and Drew Matak. Hubbard goalie Galen Hayek had eight saves while Justin Pash had 13 saves for Salem. JVs: 4-4 tie.
Maplewood 6, Lordstown 3
CORTLAND -- Ryan Bell scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Rockets (3-1). Owen Kilbane had a goal and two assists, while Chad Springer and Dustin Slusher had the other goals. Springer and Eric Hartman each had one assist. Tyler Perkins and Kevin Harris had five saves each for Maplewood, while Brandon Wickline stopped 16 shots for Lordstown.
Liberty 1, LaBrae 1
LIBERTY -- Ron Hunkus scored a goal for the Leopards (1-0-2) on an assist from Pat McGarry. Jeremy Hume had five saves in goal. Blaine Peterson scored the goal for the Vikings (0-0-1). Goaltender Bo Angel had eight saves. Liberty had 15 shots on goal and LaBrae eight.
Heartland Christian 4, Columbiana 1
COLUMBIANA -- Trevor Patterson and Aaron Shields scored two goals apiece for the Lions (2-1). Derek Patterson and Mike Barborak each had two assists. Goaltender Cody Patterson had 10 saves. Josh Harold scored the goal for the Clippers.
Warren JFK 1, Garfield 1
GARRETSVILLE -- Brian Mulvey scored the goal for the Eagles (2-0-1) on an assist from Ed Hazboun. Matt Kokrak had 11 saves. Tyler Durbin scored the goal for Garfield on an assist from Jared Sheehan. Goaltender Carson Stone had eight saves.
GIRLS
JFK 3, Canton Central Catholic 2
WARREN -- Lauren Perisa, Lexie Polivka and Jenn Natale scored a goal apiece for unbeaten Warren JFK. Katie Rupinsky and Tay Gee each had an assist, while goaltender Jenna Gilmore had 15 saves. The Crusaders (2-1-0) lost for the first time this season.
Champion 9, Newton Falls 3
NEWTON FALLS -- Erika Stevens, Eliza Slama and Alyssa Boggess scored two goals each to lead Champion (2-1, 1-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference). Brittany Bako, Brittany Skeels and Heather Beachy contributed one goal apiece to the Flashes. Gina Calderone had four assists for Champion while Jessica Franz had two and Skeels and Bako one assist each. Cassee Piquet had two goals for Newton Falls (1-2-2, 1-1 TAC) while Kortni Collins had one goal and one assist and Stephanie Runtas and Mary Jo Spletzer one assist each. Champion goalie Kelly Dillon had three saves. Newton Falls goalies Amanda Pagano and Jessica Moser had 11 and three saves, respectively. JVs: Champion 5-0.
Salem 2, Boardman 1
BOARDMAN -- Salem scored the first two goals in the 15 minutes. Katie Stoll scored the goal for Boardman. The Spartans had 21 shots on goal and the Quakers 14. The Quakers' goalie, Sarah Conrad, had 10 saves. Lani Vlad had seven for the Spartans.
