AUXILIARIES
XCandy Brooks will preside at the first District Eight Auxiliary meeting to be held Sept. 11 at the Copley VFW Post 7971, 1278 Sunset Drive, Copley. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., and registration will be from 7:30 a.m. to noon with the meeting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a parade of membership transmittals.
XSalvation Army Women's Auxiliary will meet for a guest day at noon Sept. 13 at Park Vista gathering room, 1216 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Sue Foley will be welcomed, and the program will be provided by Roberta Myers of Roberta's Gallery of Fine Arts, Columbiana. Cost is $6.50 and should be prepaid. CLUBS
XAustintown Homemakers Club will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at Smith Corners United Methodist Church for the first meeting of the new season. Members are to pay their $8 dues, and a small craft session will be held.
XCalon Lan Welsh Club will meet at 1 p.m. Sept. 10 at Austintown Branch Library. Jonathan Andrews, a rugby referee in northern Ohio who has been playing the game since the early '70s and refereeing since the late '80s, will be the guest speaker. Andrews will teach club members and their guests about the national sport of Wales in celebration of the grand slam of the Six Nations Rugby Championship by the Welsh team.
XPoland Center Homemakers will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Poland United Methodist Church for a casserole luncheon. Those attending are to take a heart-shaped pillow to decorate with roses and a glue gun. The theme for the program is "Down Memory Lane." Hostesses will be Agnes Filip, Mary Jane Guidos and Jane Kerr.
XWomancare Center of UPMC Horizon's Book Club and Coffee Group will discuss "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell for four weeks beginning Sept. 12. The group meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays at the center, 875 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage, Pa. Kathy Gracenin is facilitator. There is no fee to participate except for the cost of the book, which can be purchased at a discount at the Womancare Center. LIBRARY GROUPS
XFriends of Boardman Library will resume monthly meetings Sept. 12 with guest speaker Sandy Kachurek discussing the topic, "Writing Children's Books." A social time will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by the program at 10 in the library's community room. A brief business meeting will follow. Dues of $5, and new members and guests are welcome. No reservations are necessary. Gently used books, magazines and tapes for the book cart may be dropped off between 10 a.m. and noon the first and third Saturday of each month.
XFriends of the Poland Library will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Poland Library meeting room for the annual picnic meeting. The guest speaker will be Liz Nohra of the Children's Museum of the Valley. Members are asked to take a salad for six. Gently used books and current magazines may be taken for the Poland Friends' book cart.
POLITICAL CLUBS
XCanfield Republican Women will meet at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the A la Cart Catering in Canfield for a social followed by a noon luncheon. Betty Montgomery, Ohio state auditor, will speak on the topic of the spring primary for governor. Table decorations will be furnished by Debra Moore and Lotis Cooper. RELIGIOUS GROUPS
XAltar and Rosary Society of Immaculate Heart of Mary will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Monsignor Prokop Center. The program will be music by Little Joe, and hostesses will be Sally Basista and Betsy Scarnecchia.
XDiocesan Council of Catholic Women will hold its first meeting of the new season Sept. 10 at Holy Spirit Parish in Uniontown beginning with a continental breakfast. All interested diocesan women are invited.
XSt. Rose Altar Rosary Society will hold an organizational meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the church basement hall. Guests are welcome.
XSt. Rose Quilting Group meets at 10 a.m. every Wednesday at the parish house.
