YSU Union sets tentative plans for vote on proposed pact
Some discrepancies in the written version of the document slowed the approval process.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Association of Classified Employees at Youngstown State University said a ratification vote on a proposed three-year contract probably won't be held until Wednesday.
The 400-member union worked out the terms of a tentative agreement early Monday morning, ending a 13-day strike in time to get classified employees back on the job for the start of classes.
However, a written version of the document isn't ready yet.
Christine Domhoff, ACE president, said negotiators found some "errors" in the first written version but believe those were cleared up in a Wednesday morning telephone conference call with Atty. Jim Wilkins, the university's chief negotiator.
Wilkins said he also believes the discrepancies were resolved.
Domhoff said the union was awaiting some confirmations on those issues from the university late Wednesday, and, if the final version of the document is acceptable, copies could be printed today and handed out to union members Friday.
She declined to be specific about the contract errors that delayed getting that final version in place.
"It was just a matter of clarifying some intent on some language," she said.
Preliminary schedule
Domhoff said the tentative plan is to call a membership information meeting for Tuesday and then hold a vote Wednesday. A time and location hadn't been determined for either meeting, she said.
Meanwhile, the YSU Board of Trustees was expected to vote this morning on a three-year contract with its 380-member faculty union.
The faculty union ratified the terms Sunday, ending its six-day strike against the university.
