Transit strike to affect half-million riders

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Labor negotiations resumed Sunday under the pressure of a midnight deadline for a strike that would shut down mass transit used by nearly half a million people. Wages, work rules and the health care plan are the main issues in the dispute between the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority and the unions making plans for a walkout. TWU Local 234 is coordinating with United Transportation Union Local 1594 to strike at the same time.
