Riverkings, Banga crush Steelhounds

Youngstown started strong with a 2-0 early lead.
SOUTHVAN, Miss. -- The Memphis Riverkings (1-1-0) used big nights from their big three and had a four-point night from Travis Banga as special teams scored five of six Memphis goals including four on the power play in their 6-3 victory over the Youngstown SteelHounds (1-1-1) Friday.
Joining Banga with big night were Derek Landmesser with two goals and an assist, Dorian Anneck with four helpers and Don Parsons with a goal and an assist.
For the second consecutive game, the SteelHounds jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead. The game's first goal came on a re-direction by Scott Barnes (his first goal of the season) assisted by Marc-Andre Roy and Kevin Harris while on the power play. Youngstown added to their lead with a 4-on-4 goal by newcomer Jeff Alcombrack playing in his first game with the Hounds after being acquired earlier in the week in a trade with Austin. Goaltender David St. Germain drew the only assist.
Losing control
Memphis would bounce back taking advantage of special team scoring a pair of 5-on-3 goals in the first period and tallying again with an extra attacker. Derek Landmesser and Don Parsons scored the power-play goals, and Travis Banga added the other first period goal for the Riverkings who led 3-2 after one period despite being outshot 10-8 by Youngstown. The teams combined for 16 power-play chances in the frame.
The second period was played a little tighter with less special teams. Landmesser made it a 4-2 game with yet another 5-on-3 goal, but Youngstown answered before the end of the period with a goal from Darryl Lloyd assisted by Lorne Misita and Harris. The SteelHounds trailed on the shotboard 21-13 after two periods as they could muster just three shots on net during the second period.
In the third period, the Riverkings put the game away with a shorthanded goal by Darrell Stoddard at the 4:11 mark and added another 5-on-3 goal scored by Banga at the 8:26 mark.
The Riverkings finished the game with 17 power-play chances, converting on four of them, while Youngstown went 1-for-15.
Youngstown continues their five-game road trip tonight in Fort Worth, Texas, against the Brahmas with face-off scheduled for 8:30.
