Pair gets probation in vandalism spree



Both men must also make restitution and perform community service.
MERCER, Pa. -- Two men received probation Friday in Mercer County Common Pleas Court for a vandalism spree that resulted in several thousand dollars' worth of damage to properties in Findley Township.
Judge Thomas Dobson sentenced Michael Mayerchak, 19, of Lamor Road, Mercer, and David McCullon, 21, of Flower Street, Grove City, Pa., each to two years' probation for criminal mischief and theft by unlawful taking, both misdemeanors.
He also ordered them to perform 250 hours of community service and to make restitution.
The judge gave McCullon an additional one-year concurrent probation term for another misdemeanor count of theft by unlawful taking for stealing a $180 rifle in December 2003 from a residence on Church Road, Findley Township, and selling it to another man.
The judge also gave Mayerchak an additional concurrent one-year probation for marijuana possession.
The crimes
According to court documents, on Aug. 9, 2004, the two men used stolen spray and latex paint to deface private and public properties in the Buckley Road and Pardoe areas of Findley Township. There was damage to 12 residences, 20 road signs, mailboxes, a fence and a car.
McCullon was responsible for $7,896 worth of damage and Mayerchak for more than $5,000.
These people also were sentenced:
UKenneth Burnett, 50, of Malleable Street, Sharon, fined $10 and placed on one-year unsupervised probation for misdemeanor retail theft for stealing four bottles of body lotion worth $8 from Family Dollar, 100 S. Water St., Sharon, on March 13, 2005.
UElizabeth Downs, 22, of South Oakland Avenue, Sharon, placed on one year's probation and ordered to make restitution for theft of services, a misdemeanor. Downs was employed as a night desk clerk at the Super 8 Motel, 3369 New Castle Road, Shenango Township. She rented a room to six persons but failed to deposit their payment into the cash register, keeping it for herself.
URaymond Guthrie, 20, of George Street Extension, Hermitage, placed on two years' probation and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service and to make restitution for a consolidated felony count of delivery of a controlled substance. On three separate occasions in March 2005, he used a cell phone to arrange a drug sales with an undercover police officer while in parking lots in Lackawannock and Jefferson townships and Hermitage.
UErika Hajduk, 36, of Idaho Street Extension, Hermitage, sentenced to eight days to one year in jail for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony. Police arrested Hajduk on Feb. 11 at a Hermitage apartment on Parke Drive with four small bags of marijuana.
UApril Wills, 45, address listed as Mercer County Jail, sentenced to one- to three-year concurrent prison terms for two counts of felony retail theft. Wills stole eight packages of steaks valued at $77 on Jan. 22, 2005 from Shop 'N' Save, 2199 E. State St., Hermitage. In November 2004, she took four electric breaker switches valued at $191 from Lowe's Home Improvement, Hermitage.
