Same town, different team: This is the second time a team from Traverse City will play in Boardman. Three years ago, the Traverse City Enforcers competed with the Youngstown Phantom Rockets in the Continental Elite Hockey League, before Youngstown made the jump from Junior 'B' to Junior 'A'.
Penguins connection: Traverse City assistant coach Mike Stapleton was a 15-year veteran in the NHL, including two seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins from 1992-94. North Stars forward Jared Mullen is the nephew of Penguins assistant coach and NHL Hall of Famer Joey Mullen.
Giveaway: Tonight's home opener will be Phantoms Magnetic Schedule night, as the first 500 fans will receive a Phantoms magnetic schedule, compliments of Smith Barney. The first 500 fans will also receive a Columbus Blue Jackets schedule poster.
Alumni: Former Phantoms and current Providence goaltender Tyler Sims recorded back-to-back shutouts over UMass-Lowell last weekend. He was named Player of the Week honors by Hockey East and InsideCollegeHockey.com. Teammate and left winger Kyle Laughlin added an assist in Saturday's 2-0 win. ... Bentley's Anthony Canzoneri is second in team scoring. Canzoneri, a second-line center, has two goals and an assist in four games in helping the Falcons to a 2-2-0 start. ... Center Rob Rassey assisted on Northeastern's (0-2-1) first goal of the season in a 2-1 loss to North Dakota on October 15. Last season, North Dakota lost in the national championship to Denver and is ranked sixth in the country. ... In a recent 4-0 win over Army, Ferris State defenseman Evan Case finished as a plus-1 in his first game for the Bulldogs (1-1-2).
