Youngstown man facescharge in Campbell case
CAMPBELL -- Charges of aggravated robbery, obstructing official business and carrying a concealed weapon against a Youngstown man accused in a home invasion case have been dismissed in exchange for a waiver of his right to a preliminary hearing. A charge of aggravated burglary remains against Marco D. Hammond Jr., 18, of Chatham Lane, and it was waived to the grand jury during Campbell Municipal Court action Friday. Hammond was captured at his home Oct. 22 within minutes after police chased him and two other men from a McCartney Road home, police said. Police said the three robbed an occupant of the house but were frightened off when someone in the house called 911 and police arrived. Two men escaped and remain at large but officers were able to follow Hammond on foot and by cruiser to his home, where he was found hiding in the attic, police said. Police said a handgun also was found in the attic, and two watches taken from a victim at the McCartney Road home were found in a coat that police believe Hammond was wearing as he fled. He remained in Mahoning County Jail on Friday on $10,000 bond.
