hWatchers of royals notetiara worn by Camilla
LONDON -- A diamond tiara worn by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, was front-page news in Britain as royal-watchers noted another first for the new wife of Prince Charles.
Camilla wore the tiara -- lent by Queen Elizabeth II -- at a royal banquet in honor of King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway. It was the first time she had worn a tiara since her marriage to Charles in April.
For those who closely follow royal affairs, the tiara marked a further stage in Camilla's acceptance into the family -- though it was also noted that tiaras were required dress for all royal ladies at Tuesday's event.
The duchess, wearing the glittering jeweled band, looked out from the front pages of The Daily Telegraph and The Daily Mail on Wednesday.
The Mail noted that Camilla had been left off the guest list for a state banquet in honor of the Italian president -- "a humiliating snub" -- just weeks before the wedding. In contrast, it was noted that Charles' first wife, Diana, Princess of Wales, had attended a state banquet a month before her wedding in 1981.
"Last night, however, there was no room for speculation as Camilla, 58, walked into the glittering ballroom at Buckingham Palace only feet behind the queen," the Mail said, noting that Camilla was seated next to King Harald, just one place away from her mother-in-law.
The tiara, a circle of diamonds mounted in gold and arranged as forget-me-nots and lyres, was made by Garrards in 1911 and worn by Queen Mary for the Delhi Durbar to celebrate the coronation of King George V.
It was lent to the queen's mother, the then-Queen Elizabeth, in 1947 for an official visit to South Africa and remained with her.
Jackson denies claimthat she has a daughter
NEW YORK -- Janet Jackson says she is not a mother.
In a terse statement released Wednesday, the 39-year-old singer denied a former brother-in-law's claim that she has a "secret" 18-year-old daughter.
"I do not have a child and all allegations saying so are false," Jackson said in a statement released to the syndicated "Access Hollywood" TV show.
A call to Jackson's publicist by The Associated Press on Wednesday wasn't immediately returned.
Last week, Young DeBarge, the brother of Jackson's ex-husband, James DeBarge, said Jackson and his brother had a child named Renee who was living with Rebbie Jackson, Janet's oldest sister.
"James and the Jackson family kept everything real close, real tight," Young DeBarge said on New York radio station WQHT, known as Hot 97.
Jackson and James DeBarge, a singer in the former R & amp;B family group DeBarge, were married for three months in 1984, when Jackson was just 18.
Jackson secretly married Rene Elizondo Jr. in 1991. They separated in 1999. She is dating Jermaine Dupri.
Young DeBarge, 28, is promoting his debut album.
Sheridan, fianc & eacute; split
NEW YORK -- Nicollette Sheridan is keeping the title of "Desperate Housewife," but she's no longer a fianc & eacute;e.
Sheridan, who plays Edie Britt on the hit ABC show, and Swedish actor Niklas Soderblom have called off their engagement, People magazine reported Wednesday.
The couple "have parted ways after a year and a half," Sheridan's publicist, Nicole Perna, said in a statement. "They ask that you respect their privacy at this time."
Sheridan and Soderblom became engaged last winter. It would have been the second marriage for Sheridan, who was wed to Harry Hamlin from 1991-93.
Sheridan, 41, was nominated for a Golden Globe earlier this year for her role on "Desperate Housewives."
