U.S. Postal employee files a $25,000 lawsuit over dog attack

WARREN -- A U.S. Postal Service mail carrier has filed a lawsuit seeking at least $25,000 from the assumed owner of a large dog that attacked him in Niles.
Mail carrier Jeffrey J. Prox, of Niles, filed the complaint in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court against the supposed owner of a Rottweiler, Douglas Gadd of Clay Street.
According to the police report, Prox was making a delivery at 734 Clay on the afternoon of April 19 when he was attacked by a Rottweiler as he approached the front door. The report said that Prox was treated at St. Joseph Health Center for injuries of the left hand, face and chin.
Gadd, who lives at 734 Clay, told police at the time that the dog had been running in the neighborhood for about a month and he had contacted Animal Welfare League to remove the dog without success, the report said. He didn't claim ownership of the animal.
Animal Welfare removed the dog after being contacted by police.
Gadd could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
In addition to $25,000, Prox is seeking an unspecified amount in punitive damages for physical injuries and mental anguish.
