Fitch stings Hudson in Div. I district match



Boardman, Girard and Crestview advanced.
STOW -- Caitlin O'Patchen scored 17 points, with eight kills and seven blocks as the Fitch High volleyball team posted a 25-23, 25-14, 25-13 victory over Hudson Tuesday in a Division I district semifinal match at Stow Munroe-Falls High's gymnasium.
Meghan McDermott added 13 points, nine kills and four blocks for the Falcons (15-8). Rachel Ducay had 11 points, four kills and seven blocks. Lindsay VonSchwartz had seven points, five kills and eight blocks. Nicole Smaldino had 14 digs.
The Falcons will meet Boardman, which they defeated twice earlier this season, for the district title Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

STOW -- Lauren Rider led the Spartans (16-8) with 14 points, 10 kills and three blocks. Ali Sfara had 11 kills and 11 digs in another semifinal match. April Melquist had seven kills and 11 blocks.
Girard, Crestview advance
SALEM -- The Girard and Crestview volleyball teams will get a chance at each other again.
After each team won a Division III district semifinal Tuesday at Salem High School, they will meet for the district title Thursday at 6 p.m.
Last year the two schools advanced to the regional tournament in Barberton where Crestview won a semifinal match in three games.
Tuesday, Crestview (25-0) defeated Lisbon 25-10, 25-7, 25-8 and Girard (19-6) beat South Range 26-24, 12-25, 25-21, 25-13.
Lisbon bowed out of the tournament with a 17-5 record.
Leading Girard (19-6) was Aysha Nickels with 32 assists, nine points, four aces, five digs and four kills.
Courtney Madden bolstered the Indians' attack with 15 kills, three blocks, 10 points and four aces.
Chelsea Morrison added 15 kills and four blocks for Girard.
South Range was eliminated with a 14-11 record.
Mathews 26-25-25-25,Mineral Ridge 24-13-27-21
LISBON -- Sophie Paddock scored 14 points, with 18 kills, six digs and five blocks to pace the Mustangs (19-2) in the Div. IV district semifinal match at Lisbon High's gymnasium.
Jenna Manz added 17 points and had 34 assists.
As the season for Ridge (13-10) came to an end, Jenny Frayer and Abbey Kieger, with 20 kills, each scored seven points.
St. Thomas 25-21-25-15-15,Western Reserve 15-25-18-25-13
LISBON -- It took five games for Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas to eliminate Western Reserve in another semifinal match.
Lainey Kekick led the Blue Devils (14-12) with 20 points, two aces, 16 kills and two blocks. Rachael Hernan had 18 points, eight digs and 10 kills, Leta Lenhart had 39 assists.
Carly Pavlick led St. Thomas (14-8) with 13 points, five aces, 19 kills and 12 blocks. Alexa Baker had 25 assists.
Mathews and St. Thomas will meet for the district crown Thursday at 7 p.m.
