Bako and Bennett score goals as Champion wins



Howland's boys were eliminated by North Canton Hoover.
CORTLAND -- Brittany Bako and Jessica Bennett scored a goal apiece as Champion blanked Lakeview 2-0 in a Division II district semifinal game Tuesday at Lakeview's stadium.
Bako gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead four minutes into the contest on an assist from Erika Stevens.
Bennett added the insurance tally on an assist from Bako with five minutes remaining in the game.
Lakeview had 15 shots on goal and Champion had eight.
Lindsey Mellott, goalkeeper, had five saves for the Bulldogs. Beth Sayers had 14 saves for the Golden Flashes (9-7-3).
Champion will take on the winner of the Mooney-Ursuline game Saturday at 5 p.m.
NC Hoover 4, Howland 1
NORTH CANTON -- Tim Lee scored the only goal for Howland (13-6) with 22 minutes remaining in the second half which cut the deficit to 2-1 in the Div. I district semifinal at the North Canton Hoover High stadium
The Vikings answered with a goal three minutes later, then got the final goal with 24 seconds left.
Paul Burley, goalkeeper, had seven saves for the Tigers. Michael Miller had five for Vikings.

STRUTHERS -- The Ursuline-Cardinal Mooney Div. II semifinal at Valley Sports was postponed Tuesday due to wet grounds and will be played there today at 7 p.m.
