Poland beats Champion; Lakeview blanks Canfield



Ursuline won, but Boardman lost to Canton GlenOak.
POLAND -- Blake Rhien scored the only goal of Monday's game with 35 minutes, 5 seconds remaining as the Poland High School boys soccer team shut out Champion 1-0 in a Division II semifinal.
In the rain, Poland 16-1-1) took eight shots on goal and Champion (13-5-0) had four.
Goalkeeper Caleb Markusic made four saves for the Bulldogs. Rich Slama made seven saves for the Golden Flashes (13-5-0).
The Bulldogs will play at Lakeview Thursday at 7 p.m. for the district title.
Lakeview 2, Canfield 0
CANFIELD -- Kevin Papp and Jon Mullins scored second-half goals for the Bulldogs (14-3-1). Josh Daniels had an assist.
Goalkeeper Greg Pecorelli made six saves for the Bulldogs.
Eric Clayton made eight saves for Canfield (6-10-1).
Div. III
HUBBARD -- Junior midfielder Nick Clowes scored two goals as Ursuline defeated Badger, 5-0.
Junior midfielders Corey Mihaly and Justin Mihaly and senior striker Lucas Gonzales had one apiece in the district semifinal.
The Mihaly twins, Gonzales and junior Vlad Lungu had assists.
Senior goalkeeper Jared Daly made five saves for the Irish, who outshot the Braves, 17-5.
Badger (16-2-1) goalkeepers Josh Shreves and Brian Logan combined for 11 stops.
Thursday at 7 p.m. at Valley Sports in Struthers, Ursuline (14-3-1) plays Mooney for the district championship. The Irish will play in their third straight district title contest.

BOARDMAN -- Boardman's season ended with a 2-1 loss to Canton Glen Oak in the tournament's second round.
Senior Nick Antonucci scored for the Spartans and goalkeeper Anthony Grenga made six saves.
