Jones' bank shot propels Cavs

LeBron James scored 22 points in the win over the Raptors.
COLUMBUS (AP) -- Damon Jones has something to prove and believes he's well on his way to proving it.
Jones hit an off-balance bank shot with 19 seconds remaining and added two clinching free throws to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to an 87-83 preseason victory over the Toronto Raptors Sunday night.
"I'll say it again. I am the best shooter in the world. Period," Jones said.
LeBron James led the Cavaliers (5-2) with 22 points. Jones and Zydrunas Ilgauskas each added 19 and Donyell Marshall finished with 14.
"Just because last season I shot a lot of 3-pointers, everybody wants to label me as just a spot-up 3-point shooter," said Jones, who hit 6-of-14 shots from the field, including 4-of-9 3-pointers. "I'm a total basketball player."
Former Heat
Cleveland signed Jones away from the Miami Heat in one of its biggest off-season moves. His role with the Cavs is light years from the way he played with Shaquille O'Neal and Dwayne Wade a year ago.
"I just try to fit into a system. The system we had last year was throw the ball in to Shaq, get the ball to Dwayne, and get out of their way," Jones said. "This situation is totally different. I have to create a little bit. I have to take the ball to the basket. Fortunately for me tonight, I was able to make some shots and we were able to win."
Rafael Araujo had 17 points, Morris Peterson and Jalen Rose scored 13 apiece and Mike James 12 for the Raptors (2-4).
"I thought it was a good game. It was a team effort," Toronto forward Joey Graham said. "We're constantly getting better. We're improving every day. Every game, every little thing we're doing, we're starting to get better. We just made a couple of mental errors -- we had too many turnovers -- and that cost us at the end."
Off night
James, still recovering from a virus which put him in the hospital two weeks ago, had an off night, hitting just 5-of-15 from the field and committing eight turnovers.
"The more minutes I play, I'm kind of getting into the groove of things and starting to play better," James said. "It was a struggle offensively for us. But it's basically about the team that got the most stops at the end of the fourth quarter. That's kind of been the story our last few games. We've been able to get enough stops and enough scores and win the ball game."
James was scoreless from the 4:07 mark of the second period, when he hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key for a 39-33 lead, until 5:01 remained. His layup in traffic gave Cleveland a 72-68 lead.
Two free throws by Ilgauskas with 44.6 seconds to go put the Cavaliers ahead 81-78, but the Raptors pulled even when Jose Calderon drove the lane and fed back to Araujo for a three-point play.
The Cavaliers took the lead for good at 83-81 on Jones' runner off glass.
Calderon then threw a bounce pass out of bounds before Jones hit two free throws with 5.3 seconds remaining to clinch it.
