AUCTIONS
XThe 50th Hubbard Rotary Auction committee is still accepting donations to be auctioned Nov. 3 at the Brentford House in Hubbard. A week's use of an ocean-front condo in North Carolina is among the items to be auctioned. If you would like to make a donation or want more information, call Mike Holdford at (330) 534-0890. All auction proceeds are used for local projects to benefit the community such as the Senior Citizen Van.
XSummer Enrichment Program of Trumbull County is having a Chinese auction and bake sale from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Candlelite Knolls, 2619 Hoagland Blackstub Road, Bazetta. There will be over 300 items, including gift certificates, gift baskets and craft items.
BUS TRIPS
XSt. Paul Church of Salem is sponsoring a holiday bus trip to Virginia Beach on Dec. 10-12 at $275 per person, double occupancy. Package includes transportation, two nights' lodging, two breakfasts and dinners, including "Dickens' Christmas Dinner," bus tour of the animated holiday light displays on the boardwalk, Norfolk's Garden of Lights tour aboard Polar Express, Virginia Marine Science Museum, a Christmas IMAX movie, Virginia Living Museum, a planetarium show, shopping at Christmas Attic and a performance of "A Dickens' Christmas." CARD AND BINGO PARTIES
XA bingo and card party will be held from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Charles Church hall, 7325 Westview Drive, Boardman, by the Ladies Guild. Cost is $5.
XVFW Post 3538 Auxiliary will hold a card and bingo party at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the post home, 157 Lowellville Road, Struthers. Cost is $5 per person, and tickets will be sold at the door. There will also be a Chinese auction, and refreshments will be available.
CLASSES
XA free, adult holiday craft class will be taught by Carol Wise of Pat Catan's at 1 p.m. Saturday at McKinley Memorial Library Auditorium, 40 N. Main St., Niles. Those attending should take scissors, yarn, ribbon, old Christmas cards, etc. to create wrapping paper, cards, gift tags and bags. Call (330) 652-1704 Ext. 212 or visit the library to register. DANCES
XAn Early American Dance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 4 at Phoenix 84 Vintage Casual & amp; Winery, Route 84 and County Line Road, Unionville, as a benefit to Ashtabula County Historical Society. The cost is $10 each and includes soft drinks.
FUND-RAISERS
XCrisis Shelter of Lawrence County will host Dining for Good Living by internationally renowned executive chef Matthew Medure of Matthew's in Jacksonville, Fla., featuring a five-course meal Friday at The Villa Banquet Facility, 2500 New Butler Road, New Castle, Pa. PARTIES
XVFW Post 6488 Auxiliary, 2085 Coitsville-Hubbard Road, Youngstown, is sponsoring a Heaven and Hell Bash from 6 to 10 p.m. Nov. 12. The public is invited.
PROGRAMS
XYoungstown Music Teacher's Association will sponsor an educational program at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Ursuline Center Auditorium, 4250 Shields Road, Canfield, presented by Paul Schenly, head of the music department at the Cleveland Institute of Music. The event will feature classical music performed by piano students of the institute with commentary by Schenly. The cost is $5 each, and tickets will be available at the door. A social hour will follow.
TOURNAMENTS
XSt. Joseph Church, 4545 New Road, Austintown, will hold its Texas Hold 'em Tournament Friday for the benefit of St. Joe's Men's Club. Registration will begin at 5 p.m. and tournament play begins at 6. The entry fee will be $65 and prizes will be awarded to the top seven places. Free food and beverages will be available. TOURS
XRotary Club of Mantua will hold its fourth biennial Christmas Tour of Homes Nov. 4-6 and 11-13. The tour will include four decorated homes and a decorated church, Portage Faith United Methodist Church, 9922 state Route 44, where lunch will be available on tour days. A craft show is also planned at the Shalersville School, corner of state Routes 44 and 303. The craft show is open to the public as well as to tour participants. Tickets will cost $10 and will be available at the Red Caboose in Mantua Station Drug Co. on Main Street on tour days. Hours of the tour are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 12:30 to 5 p.m. Sundays. The caboose will be open one half hour before tour times. The traditional Candlelight Tour is scheduled for Nov. 3 with hors d'oeuvres served at 7, 8 and 9 p.m. at the home of Jeff and Edie Benner on Coldbrook Drive; reservations must be made by calling (330) 274-2376. The cost for the candlelight tour is $15.
WORKSHOPS
XWarren Salvation Army, 270 Franklin St. S.E., will be offering a Beginner Quilting Workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 19. Participants will quilt a Christmas table runner. The cost of this workshop is $30, which includes material, thread, instructions and lunch. Participants will need to take their sewing machine, an empty bobbin, scissors, straight pins and, if they have them, a cutting mat and rotary cutter. This is a beginner's quilting class. Space is limited and the fee is due when registering. Registration deadline is Nov. 10. Call (330) 392-1573 or register at the Salvation Army office.
