MiniPage activities meet many state and national educational standards. This week's standards: Students describe ways in which language, stories, folk tales, music and artistic creations serve as expressions of culture and influence the behavior of people living in a particular culture. (Social Studies: Culture)
Activities:
1. Draw yourself and a group of friends in your Halloween costumes. Write several sentences telling what you will do on Halloween.
2. Interview several family members and friends. Ask them to tell you about their favorite Halloween costumes and memories. Compare the answers. Was any costume selected by more than one person? Did different people have similar memories?
3. Use the newspaper ads to make a shopping list for a Halloween party. Include food and decorations on your list. Make your spending limit $40 for everything.
4. Halloween party activities allow you and your guests to be creative in different ways. Which activities in today's MiniPage (a) encourage your guests to use their artistic abilities, (b) require your guests to use good physical abilities, (c) let your guests use their imaginations, and (d) require you to be good at math and measuring?
5. Write three-sentence beginnings for four different ghost stories you could use at your party.
