Boardman advances in Division I
Hubbard and Howland moved on to the district semifinals in Division II.
STOW -- Ali Sfara scored 21 points and had 15 digs as the Boardman High volleyball team defeated Kent Roosevelt, 16-25, 25-12, 25-15, 25-16 in a Division I sectional tournament title match at Stow Munroe-Falls High gymnasium.
Lauren Rider added 11 kills and Courtney Schiffauer had 10 points and eight blocks for the Spartans (15-8).
Kent Roosevelt bowed out with an 11-11 record.
Boardman will meet the winner of the Stow-Nordonia contest Tuesday in a district semifinal match at 7 p.m.
Hubbard 25-25-25,Southeast 17-22-17
BOARDMAN -- The Division II district semifinal matchups Tuesday will have Salem going against Crestwood at 5:30 p.m., and Hubbard taking on Howland.
Hubbard (22-2) earned its spot with a three-game sweep of Southeast as the Eagles' Callie Oyler scored eight points, with four aces, 17 kills and eight digs. Corrie Gasser had 32 assists and Maggie Bogdan had seven kills and four blocks.
Hannah Harner led the Pirates (17-6) with 11 points and six kills. Kersey Hill had 20 assists and Jennifer Gahagan had 15 kills.
Howland 25-25-19-25,Poland 14-21-25-24
BOARDMAN -- Melissa Lubert triggered the Howland (17-4) attack with 18 points and four aces in a sectional title match. Katlyn Flick added 12 points, three aces and three kills. Brittany Kelly had 20 assists.
Ashley Conger led the Bulldogs (9-14) with 15 points, two aces and 21 assists. Doni Muransky scored 10 points and had 15 kills and 11 digs. Brittany Gamble added 10 points and Jenna Kazmierczak had 11 digs and three assists.
South Range 25-19-25-25,Springfield 23-25-21-22
SALEM -- Julie Taylor sparked the Raiders (14-10) with five aces in for Div. III sectional championship at Salem High gymnasium.
South Range had dropped two matches to the Tigers during the regular season. Annie Semko had nine kills and four aces for the Raiders. Tara Chizmar had 12 kills.
Girard 25-25-25,East Palestine 11-19-16
SALEM -- Senior defensive specialist Hillary Patterson had 22 service points with seven aces and seven digs to lead Girard to a sectional championship.
Also for the Indians, junior outside hitter Elise Roscoe had 12 kills, four blocks and five digs; sophomore setter Aysha Nickels had 34 assists, seven points serving and one ace and junior right-side hitter Mary Flynn had nine kills and one block.
Girard (18-6) returns to Salem Tuesday at 7 p.m. to play South Range in a district semifinal.
