Cast members from "Rocky Horror Show," which won the Oakland Center for the Arts a Marquee Award for best musical, will come together in a live concert version, just in time for Halloween. This reunion is under the direction of Liz Rubino and Center Stage Performance and Productions, and will take place at the Eleventh Hour Nightclub in Girard.
"This was a sold-out show at The Oakland last year," said Rubino. "People wanted to do it again, but the cost is astronomical. We have an ASCAP [American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers] license that allows us to just do the music for much less expense. We are using basically the same cast with a few new members."
Many people recognize this show as a cult classic from the '70s and Rubino thinks it was because it was so daring. "In my opinion, it became so popular because it was different than anything else," she said.
The original's plot
For those who don't know, the story is about a couple, Brad and Janet, who are returning from a wedding when their car breaks down. They get stuck spending time at the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a transvestite mad scientist, who has just created Rocky Horror, and has a houseful of other weird guests.
Rubino says the performance will last about an hour. As has become traditional with this show, she expects audience participation.
Tickets will go on sale at 9 p.m. the nights of the performance, and there will be no reservations. Since it will be in a bar/nightclub, no one under 18 will be admitted, Rubino said. Only 300 people will be admitted.
The Eleventh Hour Night Club is attached to Creekside Golf Dome on U.S. Route 422 in Girard. The show begins at 10 p.m. Oct. 28 and 30. Tickets are $10, and a portion of the proceeds will go to The Arthritis Foundation.
