City firefighters battle blazes at 3 vacant houses



YOUNGSTOWN -- Firefighters responded to three vacant house fires within three hours.
At 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, a fire was reported at 124 W. Philadelphia Ave., a 21/2 story brick duplex. The fire, listed as intentionally set, was confined to the living room with damage estimated at $500, reports show.
At 12:53 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters were sent to 120 E. Scott St. The fire started in a second-floor bedroom and extended into the attic with damage estimated at $6,400. The cause remains under investigation. Bystanders told firefighters that two men had been staying at the vacant house but no one was found.
The next fire call came in at 1:21 p.m. at 2910 Hillman St., a 11/2-story house. Firefighters said the intentional fire started in the living room with damage estimated at $2,300. The house has had at least two previous fires and needs to come down, reports show.
