ADULT PARTIES Meeting is held to discuss status of Hovis case

WARREN -- The attorney for Hartford Township's Board of Zoning Appeals said a decision should be made by Jan. 30 on whether Kay Hovis can reopen a house to adult parties, including sexually oriented activities.
A Wednesday conference was held on the status of the case before Judge Andrew D. Logan of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court. Afterward, township Atty. Mark Finamore said Hovis has until Nov. 30 to file an appeal brief. Finamore will then have until Dec. 30 to file his answer, he said.
Finamore said Judge Logan is expected to decide the case by late January.
More than a year ago, the zoning appeals board turned down Hovis' request to reopen. The board said she was using more than 25 percent of her home for business, which violates the township's zoning regulations for home businesses.
Hovis' business, The Country Home, is in a residentially zoned area, and Hovis has indicated she wants to use the dwelling to provide one or more rooms to have adult parties and allow people to engage in sexually oriented activities.
Hovis, of state Route 7, is represented by Atty. Robert Bouffard. Hovis and Bouffard have told the zoning board she's been having the parties in her home since 1979.
