PREP VOLLEYBALL Top-seeded Hubbard cruises past Rayen
Second-seeded Girard had no trouble with Waterloo.
BOARDMAN -- Karen Cover had 24 points and five aces, Julie Grzelac had 11 points and Callie Oyler had 10 points, 17 kills and two aces as the Hubbard High volleyball team defeated The Rayen School, 25-12, 25-4, 25-5 in Tuesday's Division II sectional opener at Boardman High School.
Corrie Gasser added 32 assists and Christina Starr had seven kills for the top-seeded Eagles (21-2), who will play Southeast at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Jade Clark had three points for Rayen (8-12).
Poland 25-25-25, Niles 20-19-19
BOARDMAN -- Doni Muransky had 14 points with six aces, 10 kills, eight digs and two blocks, while Ashley Conger had eight points, 15 assists, 16 digs and 10 kills for the Bulldogs (9-13), who will meet fourth-seeded Howland in Thursday's second match.
Rena Bondi had five points and three aces and Lauren Kocher had six kills for Poland. Karla Durig had six points, two aces and four kills for Niles (4-19), while Christy Mickel had 16 assists.
Division III
SALEM -- Mari Flynn paced second-seeded Girard (17-6) with 10 kills as the Indians defeated Waterloo, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20, in a first-round sectional tournament match. Aysha Nickels had 44 assists and three kills. Chelsea Morrison had 16 kills. Courtney Madden finished with 12 kills and three digs.
The Indians take on East Palestine Thursday at 7 p.m.

LISBON -- Alisha Miller scored 18 points, had 19 assists and 61 sets as Lordstown (15-8) turned back East Canton 25-14, 22-25, 25-12 and 25-22 at Lisbon High School.
Ashley Kellar added 14 kills and Megan Gibson had two blocks.
Karris Kandel led East Canton (7-16) with 11 points, 11 kills and six blocks.

LISBON -- Sarah Weikart scored 11 points, with 13 aces for the Bears (5-16). Valerie Goerig added 13 kills and six blocks. Tina Lamb scored 15 points and Samantha Miller had 26 assists.
Rebekah Sturgiss paced the Rockets (3-16) with 22 points and two aces. Casey Wilson had 16 assists and Alison Grapevine had eight blocks.

STOW -- Kelsey Owen scored 18 points, with five aces, six kills and seven digs as the Cardinals (11-12) were eliminated from the Division I tournament on Monday. Courtney Rothbauer added 16 points, two aces, eight assists and 16 digs.
