Police seek robbers
CAMPBELL -- Police are looking for two men in the armed robbery of Chick's Place, a bar at 220 Robinson Road. Police said the pair, one armed with a silver handgun, entered the bar around 4 p.m. Sunday and demanded cash from an employee. The employee handed over cash and the pair fled on foot, police said.
Information night
YOUNGSTOWN -- Ursuline High School will hold an information night for parents of sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Deibel-Morley Arts Center, 750 Wick Ave. The program will include information on tuition, financial aid, school safety, required courses, athletics, the dress code and the spiritual environment at Ursuline.
Pretrial hearing delayed
WARREN -- A pretrial hearing date has again been delayed, to 8:30 a.m. Monday, for former Warren Harding High School girls basketball coach David Jenkins -- but his trial date is drawing near. Jenkins' attorney, J. Gerald Ingram, did not give a reason for the delay. Jenkins is accused of killing his wife, Deana, in the couple's Clearwater Street Northwest home in May. He is free on bond. His trial date is set for Nov. 14.
Other hearings reset
WARREN -- Pretrial hearings were delayed Monday for Terry and Linda Maiorana, accused of bribery and money laundering and two counts of theft in connection with an investigation into county purchasing practices. Their pretrial hearings in the Trumbull County Common Pleas courtroom of Judge Peter Kontos were reset for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 14. Trial date for the Maioranas is Jan. 17. Chris Becker, assistant Trumbull County prosecutor, said the delay was necessary because a primary witness in the case, former purchasing director Tony Delmont, is still too ill to testify.
Hydrants to be flushed
CORTLAND -- City fire hydrants will be flushed from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 23-28. Residents may have some discoloration in their water but it is not harmful, the service department said. The city does suggest people refrain from washing white clothing during that week.
Meet the candidates
LIBERTY -- The Liberty Business Association will host a "meet the candidates night" for Liberty Township trustee candidates at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 In the Liberty High School auditorium. Each candidate will present a prepared statement on key issues. A question and answer session will follow. A social mixer will be held in the school cafeteria.
Bar president to speak
YOUNGSTOWN -- The president of the Ohio State Bar Association will visit Youngstown on Friday to speak to area attorneys about issues facing the legal profession. E. Jane Taylor of Akron will address the annual noon luncheon meeting of OSBA District 33 at The Youngstown Club, 201 E. Commerce Street. OSBA District 33 includes 520 members who practice in Columbiana and Mahoning counties. Attorneys John P. Almasy of Lowellville, Henry W. Davis of Canfield and Herbert H. Pridham of Canfield will be honored for 50 years of practice.
Purse snatching
BOARDMAN -- An 80-year-old Forest Lake Drive woman was treated at St. Elizabeth Emergency and Diagnostic Center after falling to the pavement when someone stole her purse. Police said Monday that the woman told police she was standing near her car in the parking lot of Sparkle Market, Market Street, Friday morning, when a man got out of a white car and pushed her, causing her to fall and strike the back of her head on the pavement. The man then grabbed the purse and drove east on Woodrow Avenue.
