Ohio Department of Health will distribute flu vaccine

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ohio Department of Health will provide 240,000 doses of influenza vaccine to Ohio's local health departments.
Vaccine shipments began Monday. The vaccines are intended only for those at the highest risk for flu-related complications. That list includes adults 65 and older, children 6 to 23 months, people with chronic illnesses such as asthma and women who will be pregnant during the flu season.
The Department of Health will also provide 100,000 doses for the federal Vaccines for Children program, which covers children on Medicaid, those with no insurance, those who are underinsured, Native Americans and Alaska natives.
Local health departments will announce their own shot clinics.
The Girard City Health Department will be administering flu shots to people meeting the eligibility criteria between 9 a.m. and noon Oct. 25. No appointments are being accepted.
Medicare cards are required. For all other insurances, including Railroad Medicare and Medicare HMO, a $15 fee will be charged.
The Girard Senior Citizen Van will be running that day. Call (330) 545-3306 to make arrangements for transportation.
