Look gives wearer chance to be unique
That anything-goes approach is easy to achieve with contrasting layers.
NEW YORK (AP) -- This fall's layered look solves several fashion dilemmas that have been dogging women for the past few seasons.
Layers are an easy solution to covering up both the bare midriffs and bottoms caused by low-rise pants. "By wearing a longer length tank as your base layer you can achieve the necessary length to fill the void and cover the tummy," says Sarah Eustis, executive vice president of design at Express.
Fine gauge knits can be layered and worn in many ways and on many occasions. The layered look affords the customer a way to attain a unique look with each reworking of the ingredients, Eustis says. Sweaters and jackets in varying lengths and colors allow each woman to piece together a look according to her own style.
"It's truly about an anything-goes approach," she says.
Smart ideas
Some ideas for layered looks from Express Design Studio:
U1980s retro. An embellished tank underneath a wide neck blouson top; let the embellishment on the tank peek through around your shoulder.
USleek and chic. A fitted wrap sweater tied around a drapey knit under the bust or above your waist to flatter your small upper body. The drapey knit will hide any unwanted bulge below.
UDress up, dress down. A stretched velvet blazer over a party dress. That same dress could be worn with an embellished trim camisole and a sheer tank. If there's a chill in the air, add a cropped denim jacket.
UOffice hip. A tight denim cropped vest over a silky top and men's trousers.
UBoho. A cable knit cardigan over a drapey knit top with a long velvet tiered skirt and belt it to cinch it in at the waist or wear it low and slung over your hips.
