VALPARAISO, Ind. -- Youngstown State (1-15) took four shots on goal against Valparaiso (9-5-1), but lost to the Crusaders 3-1 Sunday.
Valparaiso's Kendall Brown scored two first-half goals.
Kara Vezza, Jenna Fink and Brittny Humphrey each took a shot on goal for YSU, but all three attempts were stopped by goalie Erin Murray. YSU goalie Caitlin Bestard also had four saves.
A penalty kick in the second half by Valparaiso's Emily King made it 3-0, but YSU defender Jenna Fink scored an unassisted goal.
Volleyball
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State fell to 7-12 overall and 0-7 in the Horizon League with a three set loss to Loyola Saturday.
The scores were 30-24, 30-17, 30-27.
YSU senior Crystal Duncan and juniors Cari Leslie and Tracy Obonna each tallied seven kills while senior Angie Pasquinelli recorded a double-double with 29 assists and 15 digs.
The Penguins play host to West Virginia Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Phantoms split
PARMA -- Mike Maltese scored two goals as the Mahoning Valley Phantoms defeated the Cleveland Jr. Barons 4-2 in a North American Hockey League game Sunday.
The game was delayed for about 20 minutes in the second period after Phantoms center Brad O'Shell suffered a severe concussion after a Barons player elbowed him in the head along the boards during a Phantoms powerplay. O'Shell was unconscious on the ice for several minutes as he was being attended to by both team's trainers. He regained consciousness and was taken off the ice on a stretcher and taken to Parma General Hospital for treatment and further evaluation.
Marc Menzione redirected Dennis Urban's shot from the right point to give the Phantoms a 1-0 lead in the first period.
Nineteen seconds after the Barons tied the score, Maltese scored his first goal.
Drew Satterley closed the scoring with an open-net goal.
On Saturday, Josh Leonard recorded a hat trick, and Carter Camper had four assists to lead the Barons over the Phantoms, 8-5.
Anthony Ciraulo scored two goals for the Phantoms, while Drew Satterley Owen Meyer and Dennis Urban had one each.
SteelHounds
TOLEDO -- The Youngstown SteelHounds defeated the Toledo Storm 6-4 Saturday night in an exhibition game at the Toledo Sports Arena.
The tide of the game turned early in the second period after the Storm captured a 3-2 lead. The SteelHounds scored four straight goals taking control 6-3. Youngstown's power play was spectacular clicking four of six times.
Paul Vincent led with a pair of goals in the first period, while Jeff Christian and Chris Richards scored a goal and had a pair of assists each. Kevin Harris and Rob Ouimette also scored for the SteelHounds. Defensmen Marc-Andre Roy and Kelly Sickavish added a pair of assists. David St. Germain and Simon St. Pierre made 30 saves combined.
Buick Scramble
ORLANDO -- Fonderlac Country Club from Poland turned in a third round 10-under-par 62 Saturday for a three-round score of 33-under-par 183 at the Buick Scramble National Championships.
Team members for Fonderlac Country Club were professional Dennis Miller and amateurs Steve Frank, Alex Vrable, Rich Wise, Dan Schiavone.
Copeland Hills Golf Course from Columbiana turned in a third round 15-under-par 58 today for a three-round score of 39-under-par 177.
Team members for Copeland Hills were professional Jack Becka and amateurs George Hall, Jim Stallsmith, Taylor Hall, Angelo Berardi.

*DUSSELDORF, Germany -- Warren light heavyweight Etianne "E.T." Whitaker was stopped at 1:56 of the fifth round of a scheduled 10-round fight with sixth-ranked Paul Briggs Saturday night.
Whitaker (32-18-2) suffered his fourth straight loss and the six in his last seven bouts.
*RISING SUN, Ind. -- Niles middleweight Billy Lyell won a unanimous decision over Cornell Shinholster Saturday night at the Grand Victoria Casino Ballroom.
The 21-year-old Lyell (8-2) showed no ill effects of a six month layoff as he boxed beautifully and threw punches from every angle in winning handily over the 33-year-old Shinholster in the co-feature six-round bout.

Nittany Lions lose Derrick Williams
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The gloom that marked Penn State's last-second loss at Michigan Saturday got a lot darker Sunday.
Derrick Williams, the freshman wideout who was as responsible as anyone for the Nittany Lions' remarkable 2005 turnaround, will miss the rest of the season.
According to a statement released by Penn State, Williams broke his left arm on a late kick return in the loss to Michigan.
