AUCTIONS
XNorth Lima Mennonite Church, 90 Mennonite Drive, North Lima, will hold its annual auction at 6 p.m. Oct. 27. A wide variety of items will include homemade quilts, small pieces of furniture, decorator items, tools, fine art, gift items and certificates to area restaurants. There will also be a silent auction for theme baskets, and a food stand with sandwiches, homemade pie, beverages and other items will be available beginning at 4:30 p.m. A bake sale will also be held throughout the evening. XUrsuline High School will mark its 100th year by sponsoring a "Celebrate Our Legacy" auction and gourmet dinner Oct. 28 at Mr. Anthony's on South Avenue. The event begins with cocktails at 6 p.m. with dinner afterward followed by the auction at 8 for such items as condos, vacations, jewelry, artwork and sports memorabilia. BAZAARS
XCanfield United Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad Street, will hold its 65th annual bazaar and turkey dinner with the theme, "God Will Light the Way." Bazaar shops are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 12 with homemade craft items for all seasons, a special Christmas shop, silk and dried flower arrangements, wreaths, baskets, rugs, quilts and a bakery with homemade breads, cakes, pies and candy. There will also be gently used clothing, housewares and books. A luncheon will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The turkey dinner will be held Nov. 15 with seatings at 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. by advance ticket sales only, available at the church office. The cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children 6 to 12 and $1 for those 5 and under. Carryout dinners will cost $8. Call (330) 533-9801 for information.
XGustavus Federated Church, intersection of routes 87 and 193, will hold a fall bazaar and turkey dinner Saturday. The country store in Gustavus Town Hall will have booths open from 1 to 5 p.m., including Holiday Treasures by Busy Hands, Fresh from the Oven, Green Thumb Shoppe, Sugar and Spice, and Trash and Attic Treasures. The dinner will be served from 2 to 6 p.m.; cost is $8 for adults and $3.50 for children 6 to 12.
XHungarian Presbyterian Church, 755 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, will hold its fall bazaar and dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday in the Calvin Center. The dinner menu will be beef goulash, applesauce, bread and butter, cake and coffee. The cost of the dinner is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Reservations will be taken until Thursday. CARD PARTIES
XSt. Patrick Altar Guild will hold a card and bingo party and salad buffet from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the church social hall, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown. Tickets are $5 and are available from members of the guild, by calling the rectory at (330) 743-1109 or at the door. There will be a special drawing and door prizes. Guests are asked to take their own cards.
XThe Women's Guild of St. Vincent de Paul Church, 4453 Warren-Sharon Road, Vienna, will hold its annual card party at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the church hall. Featured will be over 100 door prizes and special prizes. A luncheon will be served. Guest are asked to take their own cards or board games. Tickets are on sale for $5 each from any guild member or at the church office.
XA card and bingo party with a Chinese auction will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at VFW Post 3538 Auxiliary, 157 Lowellville Road, Struthers. The cost is $6 per person. CRAFT SHOWS
XNewton Falls United Methodist Church, 336 Ridge Road, will be having a fall craft show and trash and treasure sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday with over 40 tables of items. Food will be available, and 2006 Entertainment books will be sold for $25. Admission is free.
XOld Hickory Craft Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Hickory High School, 640 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage, Pa. Hickory Band Boosters sponsors this event, and all proceeds benefit Hickory High School Band program. There will be over 100 crafters, a Chinese auction and homemade lunches. XQueen of the Holy Rosary Church, 291 Scoville Drive, Vienna, will hold a craft show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free, and food and refreshments will be available. There will also be a Chinese auction and basket raffle.
FESTIVALS
XFriends for Wedgewood Park is holding a Health and Harvest Fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Wedgewood Park.
FUND-RAISERS
XSt. Joseph Church, 4545 New Road, Austintown, will hold its fifth annual social and benefit Nov. 5 in honor of Sr. Jacquelyn Herpy, who served as principal of St. Joseph School from 1983 to 1988. This event for adults will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. at St. Joseph Social Hall and will include a buffet dinner, open bar, music, a 50/50 raffle, door prizes and a Chinese auction. XZeta Tau Alpha will host a Pink Ribbon Cheer Classic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 30 at Beeghly Center on the campus of Youngstown State University. The event is a cheer and dance exhibition by squads from schools in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the Midwest. Proceeds will support breast cancer awareness, research and education. The fee for spectators is $5; cancer survivors are admitted free with a special pass. PARTIES
XA Halloween party will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight Oct. 28 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Center, 4500 Norquest Blvd., Austintown, for adults 18 and over. Cost is $15 per person. A buffet dinner will be served from 8 to 10 p.m. Take your own bottle; coolers with ice are welcome. There will be a contest for best dressed, with prizes of $100 for first place, $50 for second place, and $25 for third place. Tickets will be available all month.
