YSU plans a week of awards, parties
The annual parade is set for 2 p.m. Saturday and will travel on Lincoln and Fifth avenues.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Tailgate parties, alumni events and entertainment are all part of Homecoming activities this week at Youngstown State University.
The festivities will begin with a new music concert featuring music composed by students and faculty in the Dana School of Music and directed by Dr. Robert Rollin at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Bliss Recital Hall.
Awards ceremonies
On Thursday, the Half Century Club will hold a reception at 11:30 a.m. and a luncheon program at noon in the Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center. Invitations were sent to all graduates of at least 50 years to help celebrate the induction of the Class of 1955 into the Half Century Club.
The Williamson College of Business Administration will hold its annual Alumni Awards banquet and reception beginning at 6 p.m. Friday in the Ohio Room. Dinner and the awards presentations will be at 7 p.m. in Kilcawley's Chestnut Room. Tickets are $40, and reservations can be made through Tuesday by calling Christine Shelton at (330) 941-3068.
The 2005 Hall of Fame induction program is set for a buffet breakfast at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Chestnut Room. The induction ceremony will begin at 11:50 a.m. Tickets are available at $25 each through the YSU Penguin Club at (330) 941-1978, and reservations must be made by the close of business Thursday.
The university is looking for at least 100 former band members to participate in an Alumni Band performance in both the M24 Tailgate Lot at Fifth Avenue and Arlington Street and at halftime of the football game. A rehearsal is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Room 2326 of Bliss Hall.
The Homecoming Parade will begin on Lincoln Avenue at 2 p.m. Saturday and move up Fifth Avenue, ending at Stadium Drive, adjacent to Stambaugh Stadium. The parade will feature vintage cars and student organizations along with marching units.
The YSU Alumni Terrace Dinner is set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at The Stadium Terrace. Reservations are required and may be made by calling (330) 941-3497. Tickets are $9 for Alumni Society members and $10 for nonmembers. Reservations must be completed by the end of the day Wednesday.
Tailgate parties
The Homecoming game against Missouri State is set for a 4 p.m. kick off, but there are a number of tailgate parties being offered before game time.
The Black Alumni Chapter will hold its annual tailgate party from noon to 4 p.m. in the M7 Lot at Fifth and Lincoln avenues.
The YSU Alumni Relations Tailgate Party will run during those same hours in the M24 Tailgate Lot.
The Rayen College of Engineering and Technology will hold its own tailgate from noon to 4 p.m., also in the M7 Lot.
Finally, the Williamson College of Business Administration will hold a tailgate party from 1 to 4 p.m., also in the M7 Lot. That group will have football tickets available for WCBA alumni, and interested parties should contact Christine Shelton at (330) 941-3068 for more information.
The newly renovated YSU Bookstore will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
