Rockets' Calderon, Minnie shine
South Range and Springfield left opponents scoreless.
NORTH JACKSON -- Jon Calderon and Dave Minnie provided a 1-2 punch for the Lowellville High football team as the Rockets rolled past Jackson-Milton, 39-6, in an Inter-County League game.
Calderon scored three touchdowns and rushed for 100 yards in 12 carries, while Minnie threw two TD passes and was a perfect 7-for-7 passing for 163 yards to spark Lowellville (4-4, 3-2 ICL).
Calderon scored on runs of 4 and 39 yards and on a 15-yard pass from Minnie, who also connected to Jim Sudon for a 52-yard TD pass.
Sudon wound up with three catches for 80 yards.
Lucas Gonzalez also scored for Lowellville on a 62-yard run and finished with 90 yards rushing in 11 carries.
Lowellville is ranked No. 6 in Region 21 of Div. VI in the computer ratings.
Josh Barringer scored the lone TD for Jackson-Milton (2-6, 1-4 ICL) on a 1-yard run and compiled 87 yards rushing in 15 carries.
South Range 40,Western Reserve 0
NORTH LIMA -- The Raiders (8-0, 5-0 ICL), rated second in Division V, region 17 of the computer poll and fourth in the Associated Press survey of Ohio schools, rushed out to a 33-0 lead by halftime.
Matt Schlater scored on a 95-yard run on the first play of the Raiders' first series in the first quarter. He also scored on runs of 28 and 4 yards and finished with 194 yards on four carries.
Quarterback Joe Novak scored on a 1-yard run and intercepted two passes on defense.
Western Reserve (2-6, 1-4) was held to 15 yards rushing and 59 passing yards.
Springfield 61,Sebring 0
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Jared Lewis and Andy Richey combined for five touchdowns as Springfield rolled.
Lewis finished with 105 yards on seven carries and scored on runs of 35, 5 and 25 yards. Richey added 87 yards on eight carries and scored on a 1-yard run and 42-yard interception return for the Tigers (7-1, 4-1). Richey also had another interception and had two receptions for 27 yards.
Andrew Schuler was 4-of-5 passing for 57 yards and scored on a 2-yard run. Nate Schuler, John Mrosko and Corey Vukovich also scored for Springfield, which held Sebring (0-8, 0-5) to 100 total yards.
