YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown-Hubbard Road (U.S. Route 62) will be closed between Applegate Road and the Trumbull County line from Monday until Friday for repair work, Ohio Department of Transportation officials said.
WWII vets to be honored
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- World War II veterans living in the 17th Legislative District in Mercer, Crawford and Lawrence counties will be recognized by state Rep. Rod Wilt at an upcoming Veterans Day celebration. Veterans or family members in Wilt's district should call Wilt's Greenville office at (724) 588-8911 or his Meadville office at (814) 337-8132 to provide name, home address, phone number, branch of service, rank and time of service. Veterans will be contacted about when and where the certificates will be presented.
Better communication
KENT -- Keith Corso, instructor of speech communication at Westminster College, New Wilmington, Pa., will present "Lifestyle Changes to Help Build Effective Communication in Marriage," at the Youngstown Diocese Ministry Convocation at 11:40 a.m. Saturday in the Kent State University Student Center. "The information I will share is designed to assist in deepening the marital relationship so communication can improve," Corso said.
Investigating death
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sonya Pratt, 38, of 16291/2 Mayfield Ave., died of a possible overdose, police said. A friend visited her at 3:30 p.m. Thursday and found her sitting in a daze on the living room couch, police said. The friend told police she shook Pratt, who said she was tired. The friend reported that she returned at 11 a.m. Friday and found Pratt dead. A ruling is pending from the Mahoning County coroner.
Teen arrested
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 16-year-old Brooklyn Avenue boy was arrested on warrants after he reported that he was shot in the shoulder around 8:30 p.m. at Gibson and East Lucius avenues. The boy told police he and some friends were walking when they heard four shots fired. The boy was hit by two of the shots, police said. The boy reported that he didn't know who fired the shots. Police said the boy had outstanding warrants from Mahoning County Juvenile Court on charges of receiving stolen property and criminal damaging. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment.
Residents escape fire
SHARON, Pa. -- Residents of an apartment at 322 Ohio St. escaped safely after a candle caught a couch on fire. Sharon firefighters extinguished the fire, which damaged the couch and wall on the third-floor apartment. Apartments on the first and second floors sustained water damage.
