Navy repels KSU, 34-31

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Lamar Owens threw for 169 yards and rushed for another 110 to help Navy defeat Kent State, 34-31, on Saturday for its third straight win.
Joey Bullen kicked a 22-yard field goal with 7:34 left to put Navy ahead 34-24. Kent State pulled within three on Luke Tillman's 10-yard run with 1:42 remaining, but Navy (3-2) was able to run out the clock after the Golden Flashes (1-5) failed to recover an onside kick.
Each of Navy's games this season has been decided by seven points or less.
It was the fourth straight loss for Kent State.
KSU ties score twice
Navy, which had 532 yards of offense, took a 14-0 lead late in the second quarter, but Kent State came back to tie the score twice in the second half.
Jerry Flowers scored on a 1-yard run with 11:41 remaining in the game to tie it at 24, but Navy responded just 1:23 later when Owens scored on a 1-yard run, capping a 4-play, 50-yard drive.
Owens completed 6 of 10 passes, and Jason Tomlinson has five catches for 115 yards -- becoming the first Navy player since 1998 to record back-to-back 100-yard receiving games.
Navy had a season-high 336 yards rushing. All four Navy touchdowns came on the ground, with Adam Ballard, Brian Hampton, Karlos Whittaker and Owens all scoring on short runs.
Machen keys KSU
Michael Machen went 25-for-41 for 292 yards for the Golden Flashes. He threw a 65-yard touchdown to Najah Pruden and connected with Brian Bell for an 18-yard score.
For the first time this season, Navy scored first in a game. Ballard had a 4-yard TD run, capping a five-play drive after a 14-yard punt gave Navy the ball at the Kent State 35.
Hampton's 2-yard run capped a 16-play, 75-yard drive that gave the Midshipmen a 14-0 lead with 5:24 left in the first half.
Miami (Ohio) 51, Akron 23
OXFORD, Ohio -- Josh Betts passed for three touchdowns and Miami (Ohio) finished with 580 yards of offense.
Brandon Murphy had 26 carries for 184 yards and a pair of 1-yard touchdowns, and Jimmy Murray added TD runs of 2 and 15 yards for Miami (3-3, 2-2 MAC).
Brett Biggs rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries for Akron (3-3, 2-2).
Akron turned over the ball six times -- four on fumbles and two on interceptions -- and the Zips were penalized 10 times for 108 yards.
Betts finished 23-of-38 for 332 yards, and Murphy had his fourth straight 100-yard rushing game.
Bowling Green 27, Buffalo 7
AMHERST, N.Y. -- B.J. Lane ran for a career-high 141 yards and three touchdowns as Bowling Green defeated Buffalo.
Lane scored on runs of 32, 20 and two yards, and Omar Jacobs connected with Steve Sanders for a 5-yard scoring pass for Bowling Green (4-2, 3-0 MAC).
Buffalo (0-6, 0-3) intercepted Jacobs twice. He finished with 187 yards passing, completing 18 of 34 attempts.
Buffalo freshman Phillip Warren ran for 92 yards on 17 carries and scored on a 6-yard run in the second quarter.
Cent. Michigan 37, Ohio 10
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Kent Smith threw for 228 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score to lead Central Michigan (4-3, 3-1 MAC).
All six of Central's scoring drives were quick strikes, with the longest lasting 1:15.
The Bobcats (2-4, 1-2) were forced to punt eight times.
Toledo 34, Ball St. 14
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Bruce Gradkowski threw for 207 yards and three touchdowns for Toledo.
Trinity Dawson ran for 146 yards and one touchdown as the Rockets (4-1, 2-0 MAC) held the Cardinals to 190 total yards.
N. Illinois 24, E. Michigan 8
DEKALB, Ill. -- Garrett Wolfe rushed 161 yards and one touchdown on 22 carries to lead Northern Illinois.
A.J. Harris added 89 yards on 13 rushes and one touchdown for the Huskies. Northern Illinois (3-3, 2-1 MAC) never trailed after Wolfe's and Harris' touchdowns, both in the first quarter.
Phil Horvath threw for 113 yards and completed 15-of-23 passes, with a touchdown and two interceptions.
