Garth to perform at Opry's birthday bash

NEW YORK (AP) -- Garth Brooks will be among the performers at the Grand Ole Opry's 80th birthday bash airing tonight from Nashville, Tenn., on the Great American Country network.
Brooks, whose hits include "Friends in Low Places," "Shameless" and "Longneck Bottle," has performed at several charity events since he announced his retirement in 2000.
The 43-year-old singer remains retired from performing, but is participating in the 80th birthday celebration to pay tribute to the Opry and its heritage, the Grand Ole Opry said in a recent statement.
