Carrying legacy of Packard's musical vision
Conductor Donald W. Byo, in photo at left, leads the W.D. Packard Concert Band in "Anniversary March" to lead off the band's 50th anniversary concert at W.D. Packard Music Hall in Warren. Byo is director emeritus of the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University. The band celebrated its half-century mark with a concert Saturday afternoon. Above, vocal soloist Dana Victor sings selections from "The Sound of Music" while Robert E. Fleming, behind Victor, conducts the band. Oboist Loyal Mould, right, plays a selection from "The Sound of Music." He is one of two musicians who have been with the band all 50 years of its existence. The other is Adone "Cal" Calderone, who plays tuba. The band plans another concert today at 3 p.m.
