Campbell, Southington lose; Scullion runs well



GATES MILLS -- Gilmour Academy quarterback Ryan Catanese threw three touchdown passes in Saturday's 28-8 victory over the Campbell Memorial football team.
Catanese hit Ty Brodhead with a 10-yard scoring pass in the first quarter and Tim Vala for 25 yards and Tom Bennett for 35 yards for a 21-0 lead. He completed 11-of-19 tosses for 155 yards.
Ted Williams scored Gilmour's (7-1) other touchdown on a 9-yard run.
Tee Hymes scored a 1-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter for the Red Devils (2-6). Hymes rushed nine times for 50 yards.
Dominique Lucky led Campbell with 96 yards on 18 carries. He also scored the two-point conversion.
Pymatuning Valley 56,Southington 22
SOUTHINGTON -- The Lakers scored 24 points in the second quarter to take a 37-14 lead at the half.
Eric Fuller scored on runs of 23, 15 and 15 yards for the Lakers (3-5, 3-2 East Suburban Conference).
Jake Duncan, Tim Harklerode and Brandon Wick scored for the Wildcats (0-8, 0-5).
Cross country
BAZETTA TOWNSHIP -- Aiman Scullion of Salem High won the Division II 5,000-meter run in 9 minutes, 15 seconds at the 29th Sim Earich Cross Country Invitational, but it wasn't enough as Akron St.Vincent-St. Mary captured team laurels with 41 points.
The Quakers, the defending champion, finished second with 67 points in the event held at the Trumbull County Fair Grounds.
Cardinal Mooney's Colin Durina (16:40) was second, with St. Vincent-St. Mary's placing four of its runners in the top nine spots.
Deidre Clary of Salem took second place in the Div. II girls run in 19:49, helping the Quakers repeat as champions with 21 points.
Beaumont was second with 82 points as Emily Infield (18:11) won the run. Salem had all five of its runners in the top seven spots, with Liz Shivers (19:59) third.
Andy Morgan (16:08) of Maplewood B took first place in the Div. III run and helped the team take the title with 98 points.
Rochelle Rupe (20:05) of Maplewood took first place in the girls Div. III race, leading the Rockets to the team title with 62 points.
Walsh Jesuit took first place in Div. I with 34 points. Canfield was third with 92 points.
Anthony Fusco (17:01) of the Cardinals was seventh in the run won by Tony Dipre (16:42) of Walsh Jesuit.
Solon took the girls Div. I crown with 22 points. Canfield placed fifth with 110. The Cardinals' Brittney Rebell (21:44) finished 14th in the run won by Alex Miles (19:38) of St. Joseph Academy.
Tennis
ROCKY RIVER -- On the way back to this week's girls Division I state tennis tournament, top-seeded doubles players Rachel McGowan and Renee Lesnett of Canfield High had little trouble with opponents in four matches at the district tournament at Tri-City Park.
Saturday, McGowan and Lesnett defeated second-seeded Magan Stoll and Loni Dickerhoff, 6-3, 6-1 for the district crown.
In a semifinal match, the Cardinals duo defeated Magan Davis and Jennifer Rudyk, 6-1, 6-0.
Volleyball
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Poland, Columbiana, Springfield and Western Reserve each won one match apiece in a four-way event.
Poland 25-30,Springfield 15-28
Meghan McLaughlin led Poland with eight kills and three points. Christy Warren had six points and four aces.
Jenna Kazmierczak paced Springfield with nine points, two aces and 16 digs.
Columbiana 25-24-15,Western Reserve 21-26-8
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Kristina Davidson scored four points and had 11 digs and nine kills for the Clippers. Brandi Snavely had seven points and 23 assists.
Kristiana Brown led the Blue Devils with 19 points, five aces, five kills and five digs. Rachael Hernan had eight points, 10 kills, seven digs and two aces.
Springfield 25-25,Columbiana 21-12
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Meghan McLaughlin paced the Tigers (14-8) 14 points, nine aces, six kills and three blocks. Christy Warren added eight points, three aces and two kills.
Kristina Davidson led the Clippers with four points and five dig. Brandi Snavely had 13 assists.
Western Reserve 25-20-15,Poland 23-25-11
NEW MIDDLDETOWN -- Krishiana Brown scored 22 point, with three aces to spark the Blue Devils (11-11). Lainey Kekic added seven points, 15 kills, two blocks and six digs.
Ashley Conger led Poland with four points, nine kills and 12 assists.
