Benefit aims to raise hunger awareness

SLIPPERY ROCK -- Slippery Rock University's Institute for Community, Service-Learning and Nonprofit Leadership will host its ninth annual "Empty Bowls" program Oct. 14 as a way of raising hunger awareness across the community.
Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and dinner from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the University Union. As a remembrance, participants take home their "empty bowl." The unique bowls are made by SRU art students and volunteers in the SRU Ceramics Studio.
Tickets cost $10 per person, with students permitted to use the cafeteria. "Rock Dollars" will be sold in the Lowry Center, Weisenfluh and Boozel dining halls, Slippery Rock True Value and at the door.
Funds raised by the event will be used to support area food delivery programs including: Slippery Rock Feed My Sheep Food Shelter, Butler Area Agency on Aging and I Care House.
