Ad campaign stars Presley's granddaughter
The creative director for Christian Dior was captivated by the young woman.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Christian Dior creative director John Galliano believed there was only one face with the attitude to bring his newest fragrance to life and it belongs to Riley Keough, Elvis Presley's granddaughter.
"Once you lock eyes with her, you are mesmerized. Ever since I met her she enchanted and inspired me," Galliano says. Miss Dior Cherie is supposed to be a younger, more modern version of the classic Miss Dior perfume, which was modeled after Brigitte Bardot. The character is coquettish, beautiful, full of free energy and Parisian.
While Keough is actually from Los Angeles, she has the "joie de vivre" that would celebrate the fragrance, according to Galliano
Fresh and sweet
"The perfume is sweet, like the girl, and is young and a fresh reinvention of Miss Dior. The juice for Miss Dior Cherie is different. I didn't want to do a reissue or simply rebottle the original; that is not what I am about, nor is Dior and its legacy," Galliano says in a statement. "We took elements of the original and blended it with what the girl of today would be into, and tied it all together with a feminine bow on the bottle. I don't think there are any bottles like this."
Keough stars in the ad campaign for the fragrance, and Dior Beauty created a limited edition makeup palette to accompany the perfume on counters. It was developed by Elle magazine's beauty director Emily Dougherty using colors from the Dior archives from the 1960s-80s.
