School levy supporters to go door-to-door

NORTH JACKSON -- The Jackson-Milton Schools facilities committee will conduct a door-to-door campaign Saturday in the North Jackson and Lake Milton areas to garner support for the school district's 5.95-mill levy on the Nov. 8 ballot.
The campaign kickoff will begin at 10 a.m. at the elementary school on Mahoning Avenue. School officials are seeking to build a new high school.
The building, which now houses middle- and high-school pupils, was built in 1913 with additions along the way from 1936 through 1974.
The district would receive funding for 26 percent of the project from the state if voters approve the levy. Voters defeated similar requests in May and August.
"The grass-roots effort will involve students, parents and concerned citizens who want to talk with voters face-to-face and explain what a great chance we have here to get an improved educational environment for the students and an improved future for the community," said committee co-chairwoman Anne Acri.
Acri said if voters reject the levy this time, the 26-percent funding will no longer be guaranteed, and the district will lose its current ranking with the Ohio School Facilities Commission.
