1,514 athletes will compete at invitational



CORTLAND -- There will be 1,514 athletes representing 55 high schools in the 29th Sim Earich Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds.
A junior-high girls run, the first of 10 races, will get under way at 9 a.m. with the final run, girls Division I, set for 2:05 p.m.
Defending boys champions returning are: Div. I boys, Walsh Jesuit, and girls, St. Joseph Academy; Div. II, Salem's boys and girls; and Div. III, McDonald's boys and Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas' girls.
Some of the area's top boys runners entered are Salem's Aiman Scullion (15 minutes, 39 seconds), Maplewood's Andy Arnio (15:53) and Andy Morgan (16:09), Mooney's Colin Durina (16:56), Lakeview's Damian Potter (17:05) and Canfield's Andy Fusco (17:07).
Featured in the girls runs will be Salem's Dierdre Clary (19:22), Alexis Thorne (19:23) and Liz Shivers (19:30), Lakeview's Kailey Johnson (20:11) and Sarah Tackett (20:50), Columbiana's Stephanie Case (20:30), Badger's Samantha Bonar (20:32) and Jackson-Milton's Samantha Hamilton (20:47).
