Fitch earns chance for Federal crown
Mooney shut out Canfield and Howland romped past Salem.
BOARDMAN -- Jodi Bowlen scored both goals as the Fitch High girls soccer team shut out Boardman 2-0 Wednesday in a Federal League game.
Erica Bordmas had an assist for the Falcons (8-3-3, 4-0-2).
Fitch took 12 shots on goal and Boardman seven.
Cara Calai made five saves for the Falcons. Lani Vlad made six saves for the Spartans.
The Falcons will have a chance to share their first FL title when they host Massillon Perry Monday at 6 p.m. Massillon Jackson has a 5-0-2 record and has clinched a tie for the crown.
Mooney 2, Canfield 0
CANFIELD -- Kelli Willis and Marisa Simon each scored a goal and an assist.
Natalie Humphreys made nine saves in goal for Mooney (12-2-1) while Ashley Hunter made four saves for Canfield (8-4-2.
Howland 4, Salem 1
HOWLAND -- Allie Airhart, Melissa Kohn and Erin Gilmour each had a goal and an assist as Howland finished unbeaten in the Metro Athletic Conference.
Alexa Williams added a goal and Rachel Albani had an assist for the Tigers (13-1-2, 8-0), who bounced back from Monday's loss to Mooney. Melissa Airhart made four saves.
Aurora Conrad scored on an assist from Laci Meals and Sarah Conrad had nine saves for the Quakers (5-8-2).
Maplewood 8, Ashtabula Edgewood 4
MECCA -- Kristina Peterson scored four goals and made one assist for the Rockets (9-3-3). Tori Spencer scored three goals and made three assists while Erica Pinko scored the other goal.
Michelle Sloan and Ellie Engstrom also had assists. Goalkeepers Leah Dean made three saves and Bonnie Clute seven.
Crystal Thompson scored two goals for Edgewood (6-8-2).
BoysMooney 5, Hubbard 1
HUBBARD -- Zach Hernan had two goals and Dom DiPasquale added two assists for Mooney (11-3-1), which took a 3-0 halftime lead.
Hector Hernandez scored his 19th goal of the season and Scott Blasko and Alecko Frangopoulos also had goals.
Hernan, Frangopoulos and Tim Beck had assists. Andrew Loudon and Jon Crittel combined for nine saves.
Adam Novotny scored while goalkeepers Joe Cummings and Galen Hayek combined for 21 saves for Hubbard.
JV: Mooney, 5-1.
