INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State was picked to finish last in the Horizon League's preseason poll of league coaches, sports information directors and media.
The Penguins had 51 points, while preseason favorite UW-Milwaukee finished with 379 points.
The other teams were Detroit (326), Loyola (269), Wright State (226), Butler (206), UIC (199), UW-Green Bay (159) and Cleveland State (120).
Junior guard Quin Humphrey was named to the preseason all-league second team.
UW-Milwaukee's Joah Tucker was selected as the league's preseason player of the year.
Men's golf
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Senior Josh Zarlenga placed 17th to lead YSU to a fifth-place finish at the eight-team Morehead State Greg Palmer Classic that concluded Tuesday.
Zarlenga finished with a three-round score of 223, which included a career-low 69 in the second round Monday.
The Penguins had rounds of 298-298-301--897. Evansville won the event with 856 and Tennessee-Martin was second (862).
Jim Powers finished with a 226 (78-74-74) to place 21st, Nate Komsa had a 227 (72-79-76) to finish 24th, Ryan McGraw carded a 228 (73-77-78) for 28th place while freshman Ryan Stocke was 34th with 231 (80-78-73).

SVC names Herron
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dan Herron of Warren Harding was the Steel Valley Conference football player of the week.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound junior tailback earned the honor after he rushed 25 times for 134 yards and scored a 1-yard touchdown. He also caught two passes for 29 yards as the Raiders lost to Cleveland St. Ignatius 24-6.
District tennis
CANTON -- Kim Ezzo of Ursuline High and Alyssa Tom of Poland will play in a consolation round match in the Division II girls district tennis tournament.
Ezzo defeated Lynsey Fuller of Canton South 6-2,6-1, then lost to Morgan Dorsey of Hathaway Brown 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 in Tuesday's singles matches at Weis Park Courts.
Tom defeated Shannon Smith of Our Lady of the Elms, 6-0, 6-0, then lost to Kristen McPhillips of Hathaway Brown, 6-0, 6-0.
April Scudere of Brookfield was eliminated in a first round match by Sabrina Jetli of Orange 6-0, 6-0.
Eliminated in first round doubles matches were Megan Bennett-Alexa Marino of Poland, by Ashley Herrick-Jacquelyn Sammon of Elyria Catholic, 6-2, 6-1; Mara Palombaro-Allison St. George of Mooney, by Samantha Dansis-Stephanie Dansis of Revere, 6-0, 6-0; Hilary Rossi-Alison Rossi of Warren JFK, by Isabel Simon-Chelsea Gray of Revere, 7-5, 6-2, and Samantha Gett-Jessica Mullis of Poland, by Rachel Bennett-Katie Chaffee of Walsh Jesuit, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4.
Semifinal and championship matches are scheduled Saturday.
Pavlik on show
BOARDMAN -- Undefeated boxer Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik of Youngstown, who won the NABF middleweight championship last Friday, will be the featured guest on the "Inside Boxing" radio show tonight from 6-8 on WBBW-AM (1240).
The show, with hosts Mike Cefalde and Greg Augustine, will be broadcast from the BW-3 restaurant in the Southern Park Mall.
Pavlik will have with him his NABF championship belt and will sign autographs. A video will also be shown of his win over Fulgencio Zuniga of Colombia on a TKO after the 9th round. Pavlik now has a 27-0 record with 25 KOs.
Joining Pavlik as a guest will be Butterbean Esch, a 390-pound professional boxer known as "The King of Four-Round Fights."
Copeland Hillsin Buick Scramble
ORLANDO, Fla. -- A five-person team representing Copeland Hills Golf Course from Columbiana is competing in the Buick Scramble National Championships which starts Thursday.
The team consists of PGA professional Jack Becka and amateurs George Hall, Jim Stallsmith, Taylor Hall and Angelo Berardi. The team advanced to the national championships via local and sectional qualifying earlier in the year.
Correction
Mountaineer Park ran four races on Sunday before unsafe track conditions caused the remainder of the card to be canceled. Results that ran in Monday's edition from races 5-10 were incorrectly added from a previous day.
Jones helps Malone
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ohio -- Scotty Jones, a junior on the Malone College golf team from East Palestine High, helped his team to a No. 6 finish out of 24 schools at the National Christian College Athletic Association Golf Championship Tuesday.
Jones fired 78-78--157 in the two-day meet held at River Greens Golf Course and placed 54th overall among 126 golfers.
Malone was led by Jordan Grubb with 73-75--148 for 10th overall to win NCCAA All-American honors.
