Nochta, Witmer, Rogner qualify for state golf tourney



MASSILLON -- Laura Nochta of Lakeview High School, Ariel Witmer of South Range and Katie Rogner of Warren JFK will compete in the state girls golf tournament later this month.
Playing in the district tournament at The Legends of Massillon Golf Course Tuesday, Nochta shot 73, Witmer carded 77 and Rogner was in with a 78 to qualify for state.
The top five teams and top five individuals on non-qualifying teams will advance to the state meet held at the Foxfire Golf Course on Oct. 21-22.
Massillon Perry shot 338 to win the district, trailed by Copley (345), Medina (346), Parma Padua (347) and Walsh Jesuit (351).
Canfield was in eighth place in the 19-team field with a 383. Warren JFK was 14th with a 405, trailed by Howland, 16th, 409 and Ursuline, 17th, 418.
Nochta shot the lowest round of the day with a 73. Witmer was in fourth with her 77 and Katie Rogner tied for fifth, one stroke behind.
