PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP Ursuline boys, Poland girls score often in wins
Ursuline defeated LaBrae 5-2 and Poland shut out Niles 4-0.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Justin Mihaly scored two goals and added an assist to lead Ursuline High boys soccer team to a 5-2 victory over LaBrae Monday night.
Corey Mihaly added a goal and an assist, while Nick Clowes and Kevin Patrick each had a goal for the Irish (11-3-1). Blad Lungu and Jared Daly both had assists for the Irish, while goalkeeper Aric Puhalla had five saves.
Blane Peterson scored both goals for LaBrae with assists from Tyler Kuchta and John Buckner, while goalkeeper Bo Angel had 14 saves.
Girls
NILES -- Sarah Anderson scored two goals for Poland in a 4-0 win over Niles. Kelly Storkel and Kasey Eckman added goals for the Bulldogs (10-3-1), while Ashley Luthern, Mandy Reardon, Maureen Malone, Jessi Toth all had assists. Sam Stanich recorded five saves. For Niles (9-5-1), Kelsy Mikesell had seven saves.
Canfield 5, Salem 4
CANFIELD -- Liz Vernal scored three goals to lead Canfield (8-3-2, 3-3-1 Metro Athletic Conference). Vernal also had an assist. Noelle Fox and Audra Frimpong also scored goals for the Cardinals. Frimpong, Julie Cooper, Jill Terreri and Kaley Donovan also had assists. Ashley Hunter had nine saves in goal. Zahra Scullion, Laci Meals, Stephanie Paparodis and Carly Duckworth scored goals for Salem. Sarah Conrad had seven saves.
Badger 2, Girard 1
KINSMAN -- Badger scored two unanswered goals to defeat Girard. Sarah Dunfee's header on a corner kick by Hannah Miller put the Braves ahead with seven minutes remaining. Miller also had a goal on a pass from Shannon Sudon Badger to tie the score at 1. Chrissy Glass scored the first goal of the game for Girard on an assist from Jaime Schnarrs. Katy Dvorak had six saves for Badger (8-7) and Shayla Adams 11 for Girard (3-12).
