HEART DISEASE Mended Hearts Chapter 7 honored for service

The local chapter was judged best among 276 chapters.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mended Hearts Chapter 7 received the President's Cup, emblematic of outstanding service to the international organization, heart disease patients, the local community and medical personnel, at the group's recent national leadership convention.
The local chapter, based on its performance, was judged the top chapter among 276 chapters in the United States and Canada for 2004-05, said N. Lee Meadows, Chapter 7 president.
The President's Cup is awarded to the chapter that has best met certain criteria, including chapter growth, involvement with the local American Heart Association, recognition at the local, community or National Mended Hearts level, good attendance at meetings, and scholarships given, Meadows said.
Chapter 7, chartered in 1991, has 82 members, whom Meadows credited for winning the award. It meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of the month, from September through June, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Anyone may join the organization, which is a support group for heart patients and their families. Members visit heart patients before and after their surgeries to offer emotional support. Meadows said Mended Hearts' motto is: "It's great to be alive and help others."
